Telford schoolboy died after 'acute' asthma attack - coroner

A coroner ruled that Joshua Lloyd, a Year 7 student at Telford Langley School, died after an “acute exacerbation of asthma” following a collapse on a school field during a P.E. javelin-throwing lesson. The court heard that Joshua, who had been diagnosed with asthma at age three, appeared “absolutely fine” before the incident on 16 June 2023. His mother said he used both steroid and salbutamol inhalers, and that he misplaced the blue inhaler during the school day, prompting a quick replacement. Staff attempted to help him on the field, performed CPR with a defibrillator, and paramedics later testified he went into cardiac arrest. The inquest also heard concerns about insufficient family engagement with healthcare practitioners, and that processes were reviewed afterward.
