Tesla Roadster Speed Bump: Does It Dent TSLA's Investment Thesis?

Tesla moved its Roadster demonstration at SpaceX’s test site in McGregor, near Waco, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15, citing a severe weather forecast for central Texas. While a two-week slip seems small, it adds to a pattern of delays that keeps investors focused on how much trust they can place in Tesla’s timelines. The hover demo is intended to use a cold-gas thruster package developed by SpaceX. Tesla previously unveiled the Roadster in 2017 with production promised for 2020, and the demo date has been reset multiple times, including a series of pushes ranging from late 2025 through Oct. 1. Tesla now guides production for 2027 or 2028, but repeated misses complicate the broader investment story, which also hinges on autonomy and the Optimus robot.
