Thieves steal cables from new Madrid F1 circuit before Grand Prix

Preparations for Madrid’s first Formula 1 Grand Prix in more than four decades have taken a hit after thieves stole cables from electrical generators at the new Madrid street circuit, known as Madring. Spain’s Policia Nacional opened an investigation after the theft was discovered on Sunday in a tunnel section near the IFEM exhibition center, though no suspects have been identified and the full damage is still unclear. The incident arrives as the track completes preparations for the Spanish Grand Prix from September 11 to 13, the first time Madrid hosts since 1981 at Circuito del Jarama.
