A Freedom 250 IndyCar Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., is set for Aug. 22-23 to mark the nation’s 250th birthday, with racing celebrities and support from National Guard and military personnel for crowd management. The 1.7-mile, seven-turn street course will circle the National Mall and include a high-speed 0.4-mile straight on Pennsylvania Avenue, flanked by the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. Drivers including David Malukas of Team Penske met President Donald Trump at the White House, with Malukas noting his first pit stop at the facility. Elsewhere in veterans news, Robert “Bob” Stirm, an Air Force veteran and Vietnam-era ex-POW whose story was documented by a Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photo, was remembered at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on July 29.
