TMD's keyless bike lock is a $280 solution to a $60 problem
TMD’s Chain Lock positions its keyless Bluetooth bike lock as a premium option priced at €249 (about $283), arguing it solves a “$60 problem” tied to lower-end security. Built around a hardened-steel chain core and wrapped in Dyneema and Kevlar fibers, the lock combines toughness with flexible handling, including the ability to wrap around a seat post. The system pairs a Bluetooth proximity sensor and motion alarm, with a reported ART-2 certification designed to be insurance-friendly. In testing with an iPhone 15 Pro on the latest iOS, it recognized the user on roughly 19 of 20 unlock attempts, typically requiring no more than about a second to detect the phone. However, the article notes a vulnerability: if the phone stays within range, others may unlock it, and a stolen phone could expose the bike as well.
