xCruzo Brief

McLaren rebuilt its first road car to absolute perfection: In the late 1960s, Bruce McLaren converted a racing M6A into a road-legal concept called the M6GT, with three conversions attempted and one becoming McLaren’s personal vehicle. Although the M6GT never entered production, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has now brought the car to life as a single one-off example. The project used original drawings, molds, and photographs, and it will be displayed at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. MSO director Jon Simms described the build as a tribute to the company’s earliest days and a “technical education” tied to McLaren’s ambition beyond the track. The finished car retains the original-style “double camel hump” cylinder heads and pairs a 5.7-liter Chevrolet V8 producing about 370 hp with a five-speed manual. The bodywork used Bruce McLaren’s molds, and the exterior is finished in Colnbrook White, with a green interior referencing the 1966 M2B.
