Trump administration's social media posts ahead of elections criticized for being inflammatory
Critics say social media posts from the Trump administration’s official accounts are inflammatory ahead of elections, tying them to a broader crackdown message on immigration enforcement and SNAP fraud. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins posted on X Saturday a photo of a Black man reportedly associated with food assistance fraud, standing in front of stacks resembling U.S. currency, with the headline “SNAP FRAUDSTER” and a caption suggesting a “prison sentence.” Another White House post on X Thursday showed a sombrero-shaped pumpkin and the phrase “Spooky szn is here.” The images were reported as taken from an Instagram account by “Shawty Dred,” whose real-world identity was linked by the Justice Department to an alleged scheme involving more than $4 million in SNAP benefits in Georgia. The article also cites past accusations that White House accounts shared provocative memes.
