Uber, Wayve debut robotaxis in London | Arkansas Democrat Gazette

Uber and Wayve will launch what they describe as London’s first self-driving taxi service on Thursday, starting with a limited rollout of Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles equipped with Wayve’s autonomous technology. Unlike the U.S. and China, where robotaxis operate without a driver, London’s service will still include a person behind the wheel to monitor the trip and intervene by grabbing the wheel or tapping the brakes. The rollout follows the U.K. government’s pilot framework, under which operators still need approval to run without a human safety driver. Uber says the fleet will begin with fewer than 20 vehicles and expand.
