Wants Your Car to Do Your Chores
xCruzo Brief
General Motors used its GM Forward event in New York City to lay out a vision for cars that do more than drive—using AI to make time behind the wheel “more productive, more relaxing, [and] more engaging.” GM executives cited Americans spending about 95 billion hours driving last year across roughly 2.76 trillion miles, and said the goal isn’t to reduce that activity. Starting in 2027, GM plans to roll out an in-car AI assistant called OnStar AI with the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq, initially paired with a new app for voice-controlled tasks like adjusting climate without menu navigation. GM also wants to halve vehicle development time and expand its hands-free Super Cruise to more popular models, while avoiding public claims about full autonomy.
