Let songs shine: 'Make Music Day' will brim with free pop-up shows around SoCal
Make Music Day in Southern California will illuminate June 21 with a spectrum of free pop-up concerts across the region, transforming sidewalks, courtyards, parks and venues into impromptu stages. The global celebration, born in France in 1982, is observed worldwide and in Southern California, highlighting a communal love of song and spontaneity. The 11th Annual Day of Music Fullerton anchors the day’s offerings, with performances planned at the Fox Fullerton Theatre, the Big Bowl at Fullerton Hillcrest Park, and Downtown Museum Plaza. All events are free, with no tickets or reservations required, encouraging wide participation from residents and visitors alike. Los Angeles will host several free showcases, including Cali Rose & The CC Strummers at the West LA Farmers Market and Music Meets the World Cup at the Downtown Santa Monica Metro Station, running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 21. The Make Music Los Angeles hub and the global Make Music Day site provide schedules and venue details for those exploring the city-wide lineup. The festival's expansion to Southern California reflects its ongoing global arc toward 45 years of participation by 2027, underscoring a shared cultural impulse to celebrate music in public spaces.
