The Rustic is officially returning to downtown Houston with bigger venue, live music and entertainment district plans
The Rustic’s return to downtown Houston marks a major upgrade for the city’s entertainment district, with a bigger footprint and more flexible spaces. Construction is underway on the new downtown location at the southwest corner of Jackson and Pease streets, about two blocks south of the Toyota Center and beside the expanding convention district. The 18,300-square-foot venue will occupy a full city block bordered by Jackson, Pease, Jefferson and Crawford. Plans call for expansive indoor and outdoor areas designed for casual dining, brunch, private events and concerts, reflecting The Rustic’s Texas comfort-food menu and free live music. It represents a key piece of Houston First’s convention and entertainment district, surrounding the GRB expansion. The project was announced by Houston First Corporation and FreeRange Concepts after the original Downtown location closed late last year to make way for the GRB South project, which adds a 700,000-square-foot convention building and a 100,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza. The new Rustic is slated for completion in March 2027 and aims to anchor the district as it adds dining, nightlife and large events beyond the convention center.
