Porch Concert Series Started During Covid. The Bands Are Playing On.
xCruzo Brief
On Rugby Road in Brooklyn, a porch concert series launched during the Covid-19 pandemic is still drawing neighbors. Operation Gig, now in its seventh season running through October, has hosted more than 300 shows at Victorian homes in the Flatbush area. Concerts take place on large front porches with no tickets or velvet ropes; a suggested donation is $10 per person. Music stays family-friendly, with moderate volume. One of the series’ founders, Aaron Lisman, started it in 2020 with an outdoor Bluegrass jam for about 20 people. Performers receive about $150 per set, with rain payouts, funded partly by audience contributions and grants.
