A foreign container ship ran aground in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after straying from a shipping route approved by Tehran, according to Iran’s state television. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) said the cargo vessel became unable to continue after entering shallow waters along the route it chose. Iran’s navy warned that entering or exiting through routes outside those designated by the newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) could lead to “irreparable incidents.” The report came as U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Doha for talks on implementing an interim U.S.-Iran agreement reached earlier this month, aimed at easing the conflict. Iranian chief negotiator Kazem Gharibabadi also traveled to Qatar, where Qatar confirmed meetings with the American delegation and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Pakistani mediators participated as negotiations continue.
