South Park' episodes that still spark death threats - Film Daily
Two South Park episodes tied to a running Muhammad joke led to death-threat warnings, network edits, and a long-lasting distribution gap. The series introduced Muhammad in the 2001 episode Super Best Friends. The controversy resurfaced five years later with Cartoon Wars during the Danish cartoon riots, when Comedy Central blacked out an attempt to air a Muhammad joke. The biggest clash came in 2010 with the 200th episode, after a lawsuit demanded Muhammad appear. Hours after airing, the group Revolution Muslim posted a statement referencing Theo van Gogh and listing production addresses; Zachary Adam Chesser later pleaded guilty and received a 25-year sentence. Comedy Central muted and altered parts of the broadcast, pulled episodes from reruns and streaming, and restricted five episodes—forcing fans to rely on old DVDs or unofficial uploads.
