Congo says 782 Ebola cases confirmed, two new health zones affected

Congo’s Ebola outbreak has grown to 782 confirmed cases after 72 new infections reported in 24 hours, a notable surge in the ongoing crisis. The latest tally includes 181 deaths, with the outbreak confined to three eastern provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. For the first time, cases have been confirmed in the Nia-Nia health zone in Ituri and in Mabalako in North Kivu. Overall, 20 of Ituri’s 36 health zones and 10 of North Kivu’s 34 health zones have reported cases, along with one zone in South Kivu. The health crisis remains Congo’s 17th Ebola outbreak, according to government updates.
