Health workers struggle to contain Ebola in Congo camps as distrust grows

Health workers in Congo's Nizi region have struggled to contain an Ebola outbreak as distrust spreads among residents. After deaths in the Kpangba displacement camp, locals refused to acknowledge Ebola and blocked contact tracing, forcing teams from the health ministry and WHO to withdraw. The 30,000-person camp and surrounding 81,124 residents across 22 displacement sites remain vulnerable as authorities try to trace contacts of two women who died on May 31 and June 1. Attacks on treatment sites and poor sanitation complicate containment, while millions are displaced across Ituri, South Kivu, and North Kivu.
