Light at the end of the tunnel': how super Sully beat cancer
Light at the end of the tunnel takes on new meaning as Sullivan 'Sully' Hurn enters remission after a year of treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma. Diagnosed in March last year at age three, the cancer affected his prostate, bladder and kidneys, prompting surgery and five days of brachytherapy radiation after a November hospital stay at Westmead Children’s Hospital. His last chemotherapy was in December, and Grace Hurn says he has been in remission for six months with three-month checkups ahead. Despite the milestone, Sully’s family plans for kindergarten next year and continues to navigate ongoing health needs and gaps in post-treatment guidance. The Kids with Cancer Foundation funded Sully’s nasogastric tube and related equipment and supports a hospital social worker, while an anonymous donor will match donations up to $10,000 before 10 a.m. Saturday, highlighting urgent funding needs as the family adjusts to life after treatment.
