Micelle Quercetin Fails to Boost Growth in Growing-Finishing Pigs but
xCruzo Brief
A feeding trial involving 105 crossbred growing-finishing pigs found that adding micelle quercetin—una forma nanoencapsulada de la flavona vegetal derivada de Sophora japonica—did not significantly improve growth performance, nutrient digestibility, manure gas emissions, or fecal consistency. The only clear effect appeared in blood chemistry: pigs receiving 500 mg/kg showed higher serum bile acid levels than those given 250 mg/kg, while liver enzymes AST and ALT stayed within normal ranges, suggesting no liver toxicity during the study period. Approved by Dankook University’s Animal Care and Ethics Committee (DK-1-2130), the study addresses interest in alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters due to antimicrobial resistance concerns.
