Officials Declare an End to the Record-Setting Cyclospora Outbreak

U.S. health officials said the record-setting Cyclospora outbreak in the United States is over. FDA officials stated they are confident that all recalled iceberg lettuce products tied to this specific outbreak are off the market. Federal officials linked nearly 13,000 reported cases to the multistate event, which they described as part of an unprecedented surge in cyclospora-related illness this year. The government has received reports of nearly 20,000 lab-confirmed cases since May 1, with more than 6,100 suspected cases. The outbreak involved 21 states and was hardest hit in Michigan, tied to two U.S. deaths. Regulators previously focused on Taco Bell lettuce, then on Taylor Farms and recalls of iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico.
