Pamela Anderson said she spent “everything I had in my bank” paying for hepatitis C treatment after being told in the late 1990s that the virus was effectively a death sentence. Speaking at an AIDS research fundraiser on Sunday, the Baywatch actress said her doctor told her she had about 10 years to live, with her decisions shaped more by concern for her children than fear of dying. She explained that early hepatitis C medications weren’t covered by insurance and reached only a small share of patients—less than 10% cleared the disease in 1991. By 2015, Anderson said she was hepatitis C free.
