Probe after 40 NHS staff accessed medical records of boy hurt in crocodile pit
A probe has been launched after around 40 NHS staff accessed medical records of a three-year-old boy hurt in a crocodile enclosure. Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) said it referred itself to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and is checking whether every worker had a legitimate reason to view the child’s information. The boy, from Cambridgeshire, is in stable condition after being taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital on Thursday following the incident at Johnsons of Old Hurst. Cambridgeshire Police said the child was “no longer critical.” A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later bailed after being assessed as not fit for interview; police said he has learning difficulties. CUH said it has strict policies to protect patient data and would take robust disciplinary action, including dismissal, for unauthorized access. The police call was made at 1:24pm on Thursday, and it is understood at least one crocodile attacked after the boy was allegedly thrown into the enclosure.
