Recalled weight loss products are tainted with toxic substance, FDA says
The FDA announced the recall of Lipofit Extreme Fat Burner 2.0, a weight-loss dietary supplement marketed in AM and PM tablets, after finding toxic undeclared ingredients. The product, made by Ana Salazar Modela Tu Cuerpo Inc., is identified as Lot 25M12F with an expiration date of 09/2027 and was sold online. The agency said the daytime pills contain undeclared fluoxetine, known by the brand Prozac, and the nighttime tablets contain undeclared 2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP), a toxic substance used as a pesticide, dye, wood preservative and herbicide. FDA says the combination can cause serious, potentially life-threatening side effects, including dangerous heart rhythm problems and cardiac arrest. There have been no reported illnesses or deaths linked to the recall. Consumers are told to stop using it and report reactions through MedWatch.
