Red Wings Announce Surprise John Gibson Decision Before Oilers Game
The Detroit Red Wings will face the Edmonton Oilers on Monday with an unexpected change in goal. Coach Todd McLellan announced that John Gibson, a 14-year veteran and three-time All-Star, will be benched. With backup Daniil Tarasov listed as day-to-day due to an unspecified injury, undrafted rookie Michal Postava gets his first NHL start. He will play at Rogers Place when Detroit takes the ice against the 8-2-1 Oilers, who sit with 17 points and lead the Pacific Division. Postava was recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins on Oct. 22, relieved Gibson in a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks, and stopped seven of eight shots. Tarasov hasn’t returned after being hurt in practice Wednesday. Postava previously signed with Detroit on June 10, 2025, after winning the Czech Extraliga title with HC Kometa Brno.
