Surprising Ozempic benefit found in new study

A new study presented at ENDO 2026 in Chicago reports that semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy, is associated with a reduced fracture risk among adults with Type 2 diabetes. Researchers analyzed health records of over 59,000 patients, including 26,324 on semaglutide and 33,555 on other weight-loss therapies. They documented 794 fractures in the semaglutide group versus 1,045 in the comparison group. After adjustment for differences, semaglutide users were about 15% less likely to experience a fracture. The findings counter concerns that rapid weight loss weakens bones and may influence clinicians to monitor bone health alongside weight management.
