The world's smartest hospitals, plus Epic's next agentic AI move
Mayo Clinic topped Newsweek and Statista’s ranking of the World’s Best Smart Hospitals for 2027, released during the ARC Summit at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv. The list recognizes 410 hospitals worldwide for using advanced technologies, and the survey now includes more than 200 institutions. Statista’s vice president of health care, Matthias Hirsch, said progress has been relatively steady in foundational areas such as infrastructure, governance and auditing, but AI adoption varies widely by region, with the Americas and Asia-Pacific showing the biggest gains. Examples from participating leaders included Cedars-Sinai’s adjustment of AI-generated patient messages after clinicians said they were too lengthy, and Apollo in India using wearable monitoring for about 300,000 patients outside intensive care to help prevent cardiac arrests.
