Trump boosts drug-pricing efforts

Ahead of the midterms, President Donald Trump announced nine additional deals with pharmaceutical companies aimed at lowering prices for certain drugs, including through the administration’s “most-favored-nation” approach. The policy generally seeks to align U.S. drug prices with those charged in other wealthy countries, with lower rates for many drugs to state Medicaid programs. In total, 26 companies have disclosed deals with the Trump administration. In exchange, many firms are exempt from potential future tariffs. However, the administration has not publicly released which drugs will be discounted or how large the Medicaid price reductions will be, prompting criticism from Democrats including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Ron Wyden.
