Woman fighting for her life after being hit by Renault Clio at busy crossroads
A woman in her 60s remains in critical condition after being hit by a grey Renault Clio at a busy junction in Longbenton on Sunday, July 5, police said. The collision occurred at about 9:15am on Benton Road, at the junction of Benton Road and Goathland Avenue in Newcastle. Northumbria Police reported that the driver stayed at the scene and is assisting with inquiries, while a cordon was put in place around the junction before the road reopened. The North East Ambulance Service said it received the call at 9:26am and sent an ambulance crew and specialist paramedic, later requesting the Great North Air Ambulance Service, which arrived on scene at 10:01am; one patient was taken to the RVI by road. Officers appealed for witnesses, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, quoting reference NP-20260705-0316.
