A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum drop out of FIBA World Cup in Team USA letdown

A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum are out of the upcoming FIBA Women’s World Cup, ESPN reported Monday, leaving Team USA without two of its top favorites in Berlin. Both players stepped away for health reasons. Wilson’s Mystics teammate Kiki Iriafen and second-year pro Sonia Citron were called up in their places. The tournament runs Sept. 4-13, with Team USA opening Friday against China. Wilson is in the middle of another MVP-caliber WNBA season with the Aces and has dealt with minor ankle and back issues. Plum is dealing with a calf injury and was also ruled out for the rest of the WNBA season after being traded to the Mercury earlier this month.
