Iconic World Series champion Larry Christenson dies at 72 while on fishing trip

Larry Christenson, a World Series-winning pitcher who spent his entire 11-year MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies, has died at 72 while on a family fishing trip in Washington State, the club confirmed. The team did not announce a cause of death. Drafted third overall in 1972, Christenson appeared in 220 games for the Phillies and ranked ninth in franchise history. He helped Philadelphia win the World Series in 1980 and captured the National League East title five times during his tenure. Christenson, also known as “LC,” hit 11 home runs, tied for the most by a pitcher in franchise history. The Phillies offered condolences to his daughters, Claire and Libby, and to family and former teammates.
