Club América Held 1-1 by Monterrey, Keeps Liga MX Lead
Club América extended its Liga MX advantage but dropped points at home, drawing 1-1 with Monterrey on Saturday, 10 October, two days before the club’s 110th birthday. The match at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City was América’s first after the international break. Monterrey took the lead in the 18th minute when Belgian striker Hugo Cuypers set up Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi, who volleyed into the top corner. América equalized in stoppage time of the first half when Uruguayan defender Santiago Bueno scored on a rebound after Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada saved an initial attempt. The second half ended goalless. América finished with 10 men after a straight red card in the closing minutes. América led the 18-team Apertura 2026 table with 21 points from 10 matches, while Monterrey stayed tenth on 14.
