Cruise ship ends global voyage due to fuel costs; 200 passengers lose their homes
xCruzo Brief
A U.S. residential cruise ship, the Odyssey, has suspended its global voyage in Cambodia because of fuel costs, leaving 200 passengers without their floating homes. The Florida-based Villa Vie Residences said monthly fuel expenses per cabin rose from about $1,800 to an estimated $6,000–$8,000 in parts of Asia amid the Iran war, and that slowing the itinerary and spending more time in port couldn’t cover the operating losses. The company said it isn’t realistic to pass the full increase to residents and is now focused on supporting residents, crew, and employees while restructuring. The ship docked in Sihanoukville on Oct. 23 for a five-day visit, carrying 203 passengers from 15 nationalities and 156 crew members.
