Diamondbacks Rookies Poised For Bigger Roles in 2027

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ 2026 season again forced them to lean on prospects, and several have a strong case to play larger roles in 2027. Left-hander Brandyn Garcia broke out as a reliever, posting a 1.93 ERA across 51.1 innings and going 5-for-5 in saves as the club leaned toward a closer-by-committee approach. Outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt, the organization’s top prospect, made his MLB debut in 2026 and after a send-down returned with more production, hitting .256/.325/.368 with three homers, including two walk-offs versus the Dodgers and Cubs. Utilityman Tommy Troy brings speed and multi-position versatility after an AC joint sprain cost him development time.
