Finders Keepers': Who keeps the severed leg? - Film Daily
A 2007 “Finders Keepers” case turned a private memorial into a national spectacle after a storage-unit auction in Maiden, North Carolina produced an unexpected human leg. Shannon Whisnant bought a sealed unit for a few hundred dollars, expecting to resell a rusted barbecue smoker. When he opened it, he found what police confirmed was a mummified human leg inside the grill. The former owner, John Wood, had stored the limb after a 2004 Cessna crash amputated his left leg below the knee. Wood said he didn’t expect anyone to open the unit, but after lien-sale rules took effect, Whisnant rebranded himself “Foot Man” and charged for views. A televised arbitration on Judge Mathis ruled the leg belonged to Wood and ordered reimbursement of about $5,000.
