Gas prices at record high for any Labor Day, as diesel hits all-time record

U.S. drivers are facing the most expensive Labor Day holiday in recent memory. AAA says the national average price for regular gasoline was $4.14 per gallon heading into the weekend and was a penny higher on Labor Day. That’s nearly a dollar above last year’s level and well beyond the previous Labor Day weekend record of $3.82 set in 2012. Gas prices have never exceeded $4 on Labor Day, AAA notes, while the broader record remains $5.02 from June 2022. Diesel hit a record $5.85 Friday and rose another nickel Monday.
