Man shot during 2024 Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died

James Copenhaver, 76, one of three rally attendees shot during the 2024 assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, has died in Pittsburgh, his lawyer said Thursday. Copenhaver was hit in the arm and abdomen when a 20-year-old gunman fired from a nearby rooftop, grazing Trump’s right ear. He spent months with major injuries requiring multiple surgeries, including a transection of his colon, and he later walked with a cane due to lingering damage, including loss of feeling in his leg. Two other attendees were shot, including Corey Comperatore, who died. Copenhaver’s family had sued the federal government in June over alleged security failures.
