Robert Bush funeral fraud victims refunded almost £35,000
xCruzo Brief
Almost £35,000 has been refunded to victims who were sold fake funeral plans by Hull undertaker Robert Bush, Emma Hardy MP said. Bush was sentenced to 20 years in prison in July after Hull Crown Court found he denied 30 people a proper burial, alongside theft and fraudulent trading, including selling counterfeit funeral policies. He defrauded nearly 200 families out of £562,117. Hardy said major banks—including Barclays, Lloyds, Santander, NatWest, Nationwide and Virgin—made goodwill refunds, though some victims who paid cash remain out of pocket. The case also involves 12 charities targeted through stolen donation boxes. A proceeds of crime hearing is listed for 16 November.
