Canada Opens Defence Drone Marketplace With Rolling Supplier Qualification

Canada’s Defence Drone Initiative (DDI) opens a rolling supplier marketplace, aiming to speed domestic participation across multiple drone mission areas. Ottawa announced the DDI on July 23 and formally launched the standing marketplace on Wednesday, co-led by the Department of National Defence and the newly created Defence Investment Agency (DIA). Canadian startups, universities, established defense manufacturers, and Indigenous businesses can register through CanadaBuys, with an initial registration deadline of August 14. A virtual information session for prospective applicants is scheduled for July 30, with representatives from Canadian Joint Forces Command to discuss capability requirements.
