Stevie Wonder files lawsuit to evict former fiancee living rent-free at his Los Angeles home
Stevie Wonder filed a lawsuit to evict his former fiancée, Carmen Efferson, from his Los Angeles home where she has lived rent-free since 1988. The singer, who owns the three-bedroom property in the Hollywood Hills, is seeking a judge’s order for her removal under an unlawful detainer claim. Court papers say Efferson has stayed in the house for free for 38 years based on an oral agreement. Efferson told Billboard (23.10.26) that she was engaged to Wonder when she moved in, though they never married. According to the lawsuit, Wonder’s representatives attempted to enter the home three times in July to inspect it for an insurance renewal, but she refused, later telling Wonder’s attorney to “f*** the f*** off” in an email. Wonder’s legal team filed the case after notices warning of eviction. He is also requesting $600 in damages, arguing the refusal caused the property’s insurance to lapse. Wonder is touring to mark the 50th anniversary of Songs in the Key of Life.
