Stone Crazy' Millwood business owner entices neighbors outdoors with crystal searches
A Millwood, Washington shop owner is turning crystal collecting into an outdoors activity for local residents and younger visitors by organizing guided “geological treasure hunts.” Jenny Dykes, 55, runs Stone Crazy, and since the pandemic she has been leaving crystals along Inland Northwest trails and posting the route details on her business’s social media pages. Dykes selects a different trail for each search and emphasizes staying on established paths, not disturbing natural areas, and helping participants “connect” through time outdoors. Her 2026 outings include vanadinite in the Dishman Hills area, amethyst-colored formations at Mirabeau Point Park, and leaving 70 garden quartz at Metaline Falls. A Spokane Valley mother said her family found vanadinite formations while walking the Stevens Point trail, while another participant valued discovering new trails.
