Daily News Athletes of the Week for Aug. 31 to Sept. 5

The LA Daily News named its Athlete of the Week winners for fall sports from Aug. 31 to Sept. 5 across tackle football, flag football, volleyball, cross country, water polo and boys tennis. From the San Fernando Valley, Viewpoint’s Jack Richter took Cross Country after finishing second out of 136 runners at the Scary Dairy Invite at CSU Channel Islands Regional Park with a time of 15:52.0. Campbell Hall’s Sophia Joh was second at the same meet in 19:03.0. Other honorees included Cleveland’s Domenik Fuentes (offensive MVP), Agoura’s Kris Carranza (offensive MVP), Verdugo’s D’Angelo Duran (defensive MVP), and Simi Valley’s Denver Smith (defensive MVP). Additional recipients covered flag football and volleyball, including Chaminade’s Lauren Jesic and Harvard-Westlake’s Ruby Sampson.
