Gianni Infantino is endorsed by the Asian Football Confederation for another term as FIFA president

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) endorsed Gianni Infantino for another term as FIFA president during an extraordinary congress in Tokyo on Friday, marking a sharp turnaround from two months ago. AFC president Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa backed Infantino in front of member associations, saying he had discussed the issue with many in Asia and that “your commitment is clear.” FIFA’s election is in March, with a Nov. 18 deadline for candidates to file against Infantino; none has done so. The AFC meeting was closed to media, with official events streamed on the AFC’s YouTube channel.
