Mayor wants London to be world's esports capital
London’s esports ambitions have moved from aspiration to planning as Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan pushes for the British capital to become the world’s competitive video gaming hub. Announcing the goal on Thursday during a trade mission to Tokyo, Khan highlighted work by City Hall to build on recent momentum, including the Valorant Masters London event that ran from 6 to 21 June. At the Red Bull Gaming Sphere, he met London-based esports organisation Fnatic and partner Sony. City Hall released a commissioned report, “London’s Esports Opportunity,” saying the city has a strong base but must shift toward strategic coordination, sustained growth and long-term sustainability. It also flags that the high cost of operating and hosting esports in London remains a challenge versus other destinations.
