René Magritte-inspired jersey worn by Belgian soccer team during World Cup 2026 knockout match.
Belgium’s Red Devils reached the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 with a dramatic 3-2 extra-time win over Senegal in Seattle on July 1, wearing a jersey designed as a direct homage to Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte. Created in partnership with Adidas, the shirt uses a light blue base and repeats pink-and-blue soccer balls to echo Magritte’s recurring motif of round forms such as apples, moons, and suns found in his celebrated works. Additional printed lines refer to a soccer pitch, and the collar includes the subtle text “Ceci n’est pas un maillot,” referencing Magritte’s 1928–29 painting The Treachery of Images. Magritte, born in 1898 and died in 1967, worked much of his career in Brussels. Authentic versions are sold through Adidas for $150, and Belgium will face the U.S. on Tuesday, July 7.
