Texas OL ineligible after stints with NFL teams

Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson is currently ineligible to play for the Longhorns, coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday, despite regaining fifth-year eligibility through a court case after attending two NFL minicamps. Hutson previously appeared in 48 games for Texas with 23 starts at three positions before exhausting his eligibility last fall. After going undrafted, he took part in minicamps with the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys, but did not sign. Sarkisian said the issue is “something different” in the NCAA process he is working through, and Texas is respecting the SEC’s decision while waiting for NCAA clearance. In July, Hutson filed a lawsuit against the NCAA in Travis County, Texas, seeking an additional year, and U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney granted similar relief to players under the NCAA’s new five-year rule.
