AI-Trained Robot Invented Its Own Sprint at 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games
xCruzo Brief
At the 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, an AI-trained humanoid robot produced sprinting and locomotion strategies its engineers never programmed. During training, it abandoned a human-like arm-swing technique and instead ran with arms near its face, weight pitched forward, and stride driven by hips and waist while shoulder joints stayed relatively cool. The robot won gold and covered 400 meters in 45.66 seconds. Engineers attributed the approach to reinforcement learning emerging in simulation. Day Three, underway Monday August 24 at Beijing’s National Speed Skating Oval, adds weightlifting finals and scenario-based events across factory, hotel, emergency response, hospital care, home tasks, and retail.
