Apple was ordered by a US jury to pay $5.7bn (£4.3bn) in damages after finding it used another company’s haptics technology without permission. Audio firm Taction Technology claimed in 2021 that Apple infringed two patents covering haptics systems that create vibration feedback for actions like receiving a message or pressing a button—features built into devices including the iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple said it plans to appeal, arguing it had not used Taction’s technology. In separate news, SpaceX launched its Starship rocket into orbit for the first time early Monday, reaching orbit around 8:15 a.m. local time. The FAA issued a license authorization for Flight 14 and reentry operations on Sept. 26.
