Nvidia Stock Climbs 2.8% After Record $150 Billion Buyback Boost and Launch of AI Agent Safety Platform
Nvidia’s shares rose 2.78% on Monday after the company announced what it called the biggest increase to its share repurchase authorization in its history and unveiled an “Open Agent Safety Platform” for autonomous AI agents. The board authorized an additional $150 billion for buybacks, bringing remaining repurchase authority to $235 billion, with completion expected by fiscal year 2028. While Nvidia framed the expansion around cash generation and a “platform shift to AI and accelerated computing,” the filing clarifies the $235 billion figure is remaining authority, not an immediate $150 billion purchase commitment. The safety platform combines OpenShell, which sandboxes agent execution, and Sentry, which monitors Nvidia BlueField-4 processing units. Nvidia said it includes more than 100 partners.
