Australian police arrest two over TeamPCP hacks targeting Mercor, OpenAI, and others

Australian police have arrested two people in Perth accused of belonging to TeamPCP, a hacking group blamed for major attacks on large technology companies. The Australian Federal Police says the pair face charges including more than a dozen offenses related to hacking, money laundering, and other cybercrimes, and they are expected to appear in court later Thursday. Authorities allege the attackers breached and tampered with popular open-source projects to compromise many computers, stealing credentials and data before extorting victims. FBI cyber chief Brett Leatherman said they are accused of hacking into more than 1,000 organizations. Investigators started in April 2026 after information from multiple cybersecurity firms.
