Chancellor John Healey has announced appointments to the Bank of England’s Court. David Craig and Paul Nowak are appointed for four-year terms ending 31 August 2030, taking roles vacated by Sir Ron Kalifa and Baroness Frances O’Grady. Smits will start a four-year term on 1 January 2027, running until 31 December 2030, succeeding Sabine Chalmers, who plans to resign at the end of October 2026. Craig and Nowak will attend their first Court meetings on 17 September and 22 October, respectively, while Smits’ first meeting is set for 11 February 2027. The Bank also reappointed Lord Jitesh Gadhia and Tom Shropshire as non-executive directors. Craig has led Refinitiv and Nowak is General Secretary of the TUC.
