Construction Robots Just Took A Giant Leap Forward: Hello Holy Grail Of Robotics
xCruzo Brief
Zinova, a San Jose robotics startup and spinoff of RIC Robotics, is pitching a more tool-focused approach to construction automation. Instead of investing in dexterous humanoid hands, its robots use simple grippers to handle standard pistol-grip jobsite tools such as drills and nail guns. A feedback sensor called TEISI measures force, torque, and vibration so the system can adapt to real conditions. The company demoed a robot building a tilt-up panel while performing multiple tasks. Zinova’s “Tool Intelligence” is designed to let robots run contractors’ existing equipment, targeting labor shortages with flexible general-purpose capability.
